My Class Chains...

As you know, Jon and I started a new semester at the beginning of the month. For the first day, I did the normal get to know you things, but I also tried something new. One of our other teachers was having the students make a chain (like the ones we use to count down to Christmas) and write sentences about themselves on each link. I had my students do this and present it to the class as well, but we decided to add something else. After talking about my rules and why rules are important, I had my students write a rule that they thought was the most important on a gold link. Then, we shared our rule. After the rules were shared, we used the rules to link our class chains together. Even though it was a little difficult for my lower ESL students to understand, we talked about how if we break a rule (such as being unkind to each other), our class chain can break and we aren't connected as much and the rest of us are hurt as well. (or something to that effect). We have the chains hanging in my room and it may look like a torture chamber, but oh well. Hopefully, instead, it is a reminder of the rules and who each of us are...

NO WAY!!! NOT a torture chamber!!! a chamber of LOVE and SECURITY and MUTUAL RESPECT and INTER-DEPENDENCE! What a WONDERFUL way to show how important each one is, and also to help them TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for their actions and how "when one hurts the rest probably will as well"! Thanks for sharing that, Miss Anika!
xoxoxoxoxo to all the kiddies, you, and Mr. Jonathon!
