Happy Birthday, Jon!

I am taking a brief study break to add a blog post.  (Yes, this is a fun way to take a break from Spanish.)

This weekend was special for two reasons.
1. It was my Jonathon's 26th birthday!
2. My parents were in town for a visit!

We did some fun things, and enjoyed our time together, so I'll share that later.  But for now, it's about Jonathon.  I love giving Jonathon surprises (as you might be able to guess from my Valentine's puzzles).  So, I had been torturing him for a month or so about his present.  He always says I give him good gifts and so I knew this one would be great.  Because of this, I have to be sneaky in getting it, so the last few years I've coordinated with his parents so that Jon does not know his gifts (thanks Engers!).  Jon is really good about whining about his presents and he tries really hard to act pitiful so I'll tell him his surprise.  But, he had no luck and I held off until the night before his birthday.  I gave in when I asked him if he wanted it the night before at his birthday dinner.

Jon opened up his gift bag and it was a familiar looking tea cup box. Hm.  Inside of that, was a ring pop.  Under that and a piece of cardboard was a can of aloe.  Hm. Finally, he made it to the bottom and he found two pieces of paper, pieces of paper to a concert: The Newsboys.  Jon was very happy and had actually been listening to their new album non-stop the last few weeks.  We have really nice seats at the concert and I'm really excited to be able to go with him.  Jon keeps telling me at very random times how excited the is for the concert as well.  It's going to be a pretty great weekend as my Yo-Yo Ma concert is that same weekend.  I guess we're making up for all the music performances we've been missing out on since being at Bethel.
My second gift to him was kind of random, but oh well.  I told Jon that I had been checking the Chicago German heritage site for awhile and finally found an event that we could go to.  I tend to downplay the German in him and I feel guilty.  So, I'll put away my own pride and go and enjoy some German activities, dance, music, and food later this spring.  I'm assuming I can't wear my "Made in Sweden" shirt, right?  nope.

Happy Birthday, Jon!

Fun to be part of the secret! Anika, you always find clever ways to present your gifts to Jonathon. You are very creative.
